J.W. Croney

July 14, 1934 — September 16, 2015

J.W. Croney passed away in his home on September 16th, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and problems associated with diabetes. He was surrounded by his children and comforted by his wife. He was 81 years old.

J.W. was born in Blytheville, AR on July 14th, 1934. He was the 5th child of Belle and William Bedford Croney.
He joined the U.S. Navy at 18 years old and served from 1952-1956. His service was aboard the U.S.S. Hancock aircraft carrier during the Korean War.
Some of his favorite things were old westerns, camping with family and friends, fishing and most of all spending time with his family. J.W. worked at Lincoln in St. Louis, MO and retired after 35 years.

J.W. was united in marriage to Elwanda Hodge on September 1st, 1961, in Memphis, TN. They had 4 children: Rhonda, Kerry, Randall, and Lagaila. They were married for 54 years.
J.W. and Elwanda became members of the First United Pentecostal Church of St. Charles, MO on Decemeber 10th, 1962, when it began under the late Reverend Lester D. Gwaltney in the little wash house on 3rd Street. He helped build the church on Fairgrounds Road now known as Winds of Pentecost where they continued their faithful and loyal service.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Belle and William Bedford Croney, one sister: Pearl Stokes, three brothers: Ernest Croney, Bill Croney, and Alvis Croney.

J.W. is survived by his wife Elwanda (Hodge) Croney, their 4 children, Rhonda (Crandall) Dunnermann, Kerry Croney, Randall Croney, and Lagaila Baalman. 8 grandchildren: Amber (Matt) Hudzik, Scott and Sarah Dunnermann, Taylor, Hunter, and Leah Baalman, Zach and Josh Croney, many loving nieces, nephew, cousins, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted by the family in care of Baue Funeral Home in Cave Springs, MO.
The family of J.W. would like to thank the many friends and family that shared or touched his life in so many ways. Special thanks to the people that played an important role in the services commemorating and celebrating his life.
