Jackson L. Seitz

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Canter of Southern Illinois. On October 7, 2007, Jackson Lewis Seitz of St. Charles found final rest. He had joyfully reached his 85th birthday in January. He was born in St. Louis on January 23, 1922. As a young man, he got his chauffeurs license and delivered heating oil to St. Louis homes. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Loraine Grote, at the St. Charles skating rink. They were married on June 1, 1939 and had four children. During World War II, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Artillery. Whe the first atomic bomb was dropped, he was on an invasion transport near the Japanese coast. When Japan surrendered, his unit went on to secure Korea. When he returned home, he became a member of the St. Louis Carpenter's District Council. He served as treasurer for several years. As a millwright, he worked on many of the large structures in the area including bridges, dams, and manufacturing facilities. Jackson was an active member of the Royal Arch Masons (Blue Lodge). In 1956, he served as High Priest. Both Jackson and his wife were active in the Eastern Star and became Worthy Patron and Matron in 1957. His passion was horse racing. He owned four thoroughbreds. His racing silks was a rearing white stallion on a red background. The highlight of each year was the Triple Crown Races. He had a second passion--barbeque. He always used coals from apple or hickory wood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Jackson Seitz, Jr.; his father, Joseph Seitz, Sr.; his mother, Lucile Seitz; his sister, Marjorie Kostedt; and his brother, Joseph Seitz, Jr. Survivors include his daughters, Kristi (Phil) Aubuchon of St. Peters; Carole (Mark) Mackin of Montana; and Janice Johnson of Rhode Island; his grandchildren, Laura (Jay) Charette of Rhode Island and Melissa (Mike) Costa of Rhode Island. He also had 5 great-grandchildren, a niece, and two nephews.
