James L. Burdick

James L. Burdick, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the age of 77. Loving husband of 54 years to Virginia Burdick; beloved son of the late Clayton R. and Anna Burdick; devoted father of Kelly (Tom) Spearman and Tiffany (Andrew) Branson Hicks; cherished grandfather of James Schuler, Josh Branson, Sarah Hicks, and Silas Hicks; dear brother of Kenneth (the late Mary) Burdick and Russell (the late Evelyn) Burdick.  James was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine (Tony) Olsen.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He met his wife when he moved to South Dakota to go to Tech School. He had just gotten out of the Air Force, and was hanging out with his buddies at the bowling alley when she caught his eye.

James retired from Boeing after more than 20 years as an engineer.  He was very intelligent and went back to school to obtain his master’s in Professional Counseling, which he put to good use with opening his own office to serve the community.

As a man of strong faith, James was very active in church.  To many he was known as the “Donut Man” and could be found selling donuts in the lobby at church on Sundays.  He was involved in the Stephen Ministries and truly enjoyed volunteering for mission work with the homeless and indigent community.  He also helped with Volunteers in Medicine for many years.

James enjoyed listening to classical music, and he looked forward to attending the symphony with his wife.  He also had an aptitude for learning to play instruments and was proud that he was completely self-taught.

James loved the outdoors, and he had a place on the Mississippi river where he liked to go fishing.  He also liked to go golfing in his younger years, and he and his wife looked forward to their travels to Tempe where they would golf in the winter.  James enjoyed traveling as well and especially loved going on cruises.  In fact, he went on 27 cruises with his wife, and he loved it because he only had to pack and unpack one time.  His favorite place to cruise was Alaska.

James loved hockey and was an avid St. Louis Blues fan, and he was a season ticket holder for 14 years and loved every moment of it.

James will be remembered for his wonderful smile.  He could light up a room with his joyous presence.  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made in James's name to Visiting Nurses Association.
