Married for over 71 years and survived by Brigida McHargue (nee Schillizzi). Loving father of James Michael (Linda Neske), John Raymond (Donna Black), Patricia Ann "Trish" (Dr. Thomas Hanley), Kevin Joseph (Mary Elizabeth Unland). Dear grandfather of James Patrick McHargue (Meilin Zhao), Amy McHargue (John Bachhuber), John Robert McHargue (Stacy Lentz), Traci Wile, Scott Wile, Colleen Hanley (Scot Schimweg), Thomas Hanley III, Matthew McHargue Hanley, Timothy Hanley, Patrick McHargue, Jennifer McHargue, Kristin McHargue, Erin McHargue, and William McHargue. Great grandfather of Courtney Brigida McHargue, J. P. McHargue, Jack Bachhuber, Charlie Bachhuber, Allison Schimweg, Logan Schimweg, Hazel McHargue and Violet McHargue. Dear uncle and friend.
As a young man Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping in north Missouri. He attended Chillicothe Business College and worked for the CB&Q railroad. Early in WW II T/Sgt. McHargue enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was assigned the job of training air crew members, during flight, in the operation of .50 caliber machine guns and gun turrets on B-24 Flying Fortress Liberator Bombers. He served his country proudly for four years.
Jim had a long and successful career in the St. Louis lumber industry and managed and later owned several lumberyards and building materials stores. As a contractor he built a number of homes for others and himself. In his retirement he and Brigida traveled extensively, wintered a number of years in Florida and fed his unending curiosity with endless hours on his computer. He always had a quick wit, a smile and complete respect for all he knew and met. He led a full and active life and will be sadly missed by friends and family alike.
Memorials may be made in honor of James to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
