James “Jim” Douglas Sherrard, of Saint Peters, MO, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Katherine R. Sherrard; cherished son of the late Clydie I. and Alfred H. Sherrard; devoted father of Joe (Denise) Heibel, Amanda (Steve Coloni) Sherrard, Rhonda (Kevin Slaughter) Sherrard, Melanie (Perry) West, Matthew Mink, and Clayton (Melody) Sherrard; loving grandfather of Alexus “Kiddo”, Zoe, Anna “Hoosier”, Colton "Hey Dude", Meghan, Kiley, Mia, Jette, Gemma and Koe; dear brother of Cathy Bymaster and Bruce (Tammy) Sherrard.
Jim, strong and steadfast, brought a sense of calm and comfort to those around him. He was a man of his word and someone you could count on. He was a rock and a foundation for many people throughout his life and the impact of losing him will be felt deeply by those who have had the pleasure of knowing him.
Often, he cooked exceptional meals; cooking, grilling, and smoking elaborate dinners were something he enjoyed doing. Jim was a free spirit and loved to feel the wind in his hair. He loved riding in his jeep and on his motorcycle. You might also find Jim standing on the side of a bank casting his fishing pole or sitting in his backyard with Leroy, his dog, a tried-and-true companion. He was also honored to have been accepted as a member of the Patriot Guard Riders.
He had an incredible work ethic, dedicated and hardworking, he was a wonderful provider for his family. He devoted time and talent to each career path he had chosen and along the way created friendships and camaraderie that will last beyond his lifetime. Jim had a long career in EMS and Fire Service in both St. Louis and St. Charles counties, as a paramedic, captain, and later in ambulance service management. With his love for cars, he enjoyed his part-time job (and discount) at Auto Zone. His retirement transitioned into his next career as a service assistant at Baue Funeral Homes.
Jim shared 31 years of marriage with Kathy and countless memories that will be cherished forever. He was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather and friend. Jim was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jim’s family wants to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to those at SSM Cancer Center on Kisker Road, McClay Senior Care and St. Croix Hospice for caring for Jim so wonderfully.
Memorials may be made in Jim's name to Five Acres Animal Shelter.
