Jean Bampton (nee Tolbert), of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the age of 80. Loving wife of 53 years to Dennis Bampton; beloved daughter of the late Mary Tolbert; devoted mother of Cathi (Tim) Johnson, Donna Zoll, Sandy (Ray) Madere, and Tod (Mandy) Bampton; cherished grandmother of Toni LaDefian, Brandi Guthrie, Trisha Perry, Kenny Guthrie, Amber Cathcart, Ryan Zoll, Kaylee Madere, Austin Noernberg, Sydney Bampton, Jacob Noernberg, Jade O'Neill, Carter Madere, Peter Bampton, Charlie Bampton, Keirstin Madere, and Maggie Bampton; treasured great-grandmother of 12; dear sister of Sue Crews and the late Dyann Archangeli.
Jean met her husband while he was in the Army, stationed in Dothan, AL. They courted and were married Nov. 1, 1969. They moved to the Lake of the Ozarks and managed a resort together, then later moved to Missouri. Since Jean’s husband owned and operated an aviation company, she eventually got her pilot's license so her husband could still fly.
Jean was energetic and always on the go. She loved to dance, and getting dressed up to go out to dinner & dancing with her husband was a must. They also liked to karaoke on the weekends as well.
As a caregiver, Jean was so kind and compassionate, and she loved to take care of people. She was a great mom and loved her family more than anything, especially spending time with her grandkids. She was a wonderful homemaker, and she was a great cook and baker. She was an amazing seamstress and made incredible outfits and costumes for all of her kids. She could also get a stain out of just about anything.
Jean loved to travel with her family and visit family in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. She took trips with her husband to Hawaii, Aruba, and other adventurous places around the world. In her younger years, she liked to go to the Lake of the Ozarks with family for summer vacations as well.
Jean liked to relax and watch her favorite show, Law & Order, and she probably holds the World Record for most times watching a show. She was also a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and looked forward to watching their games on TV, and she went to many of their games in her younger years.
Jean was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's name to Alzheimer's Association.
