Jeannie Ardeth (Bain) Moe passed away at the age of 58 on April 29th in St Charles, Missouri after a brief illness and complications from cardiac surgery. She was born March 3rd 1957 in Grants Pass, Oregon to William M.L. and Grayce Iona (Richardson) Bain. She grew up in Oregon, Michigan and Arizona. She graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1975, earned her BS in Biology from Northern Arizona University (1979) and an MS in Biology from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (2003).
She had worked at the Missouri Botanical Gardens (MBG), and volunteered at the Shaw Nature Reserve (MBG) and the Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center. Most recently she was working as a horticulturalist specializing in native plant demonstration gardening. She managed gardens at the Weldon Spring Site (DOE), August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area (MDC), and the Jim Ziebol Butterfly Garden (also located at the Busch Conservation Area).
Jeannie was a life member in the Webster Groves Nature Study Society (WGNSS), participating in botany walks and bird watching. She was also active with the Missouri Native Plant Society and the St. Louis Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA). She was into hiking, needle point, photography, painting, sculpture with polymer clay, and quilting. She designed and created numerous quilts specializing in nature themes using the appliqué method.
She married James Raymond (Jim) Moe in St Charles on August 4th 1984 and raised two sons, William Raymond 'Willie' and James Woodrow 'Woody' Moe. They still reside in St. Charles along with her cat Mickey, and dog Marshall.
She is survived by her husband Jim and sons Willie and Woody of St Charles, mother Grayce Bain, brothers George Bain (Jane Reukema), Ed Bain (Janet) all of Flagstaff, Arizona, and James Bain of Bahama, North Carolina, sisters Bonnie Bain (Fred Govedich) of Cedar City, Utah and Mary Hays (John) of Rio Rico, Arizona, nephews Jason, Wesley, John, Ed, Gilbert and Patrick and nieces Lena and Tori.
Memorial services will be held at the Weldon Spring Site, 7295 Hwy 94 South, St. Charles, MO 63304 on Saturday May 16th at 9:30 AM, and in Flagstaff, Arizona at a later date. Contributions in Jeannie's memory may be made to the America Heart Association, or the Webster Groves Nature Study Society in St. Louis.
