Jo Ann Gaines (nee JoAnn Hogins), of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021, at the age of 87. Beloved wife of William Gaines; cherished daughter of the late Reece and Zula Anna Hogins. Devoted mother of Reece (Sue) Gaines and Melinda Dooley; loving grandmother of Casey (Seth) Zeka, Ashley (Chris) Faatz, and Angie Tourigny; treasured great-grandmother of 13. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Johnny and Sissy Hogins. Jo Ann met Bill and their first date was at church. They shared a love for country music. They were so smitten and got married in just 5 weeks after they met. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Mountain View, Arkansas and Blue Ridge Pkwy in North Carolina. They also went on many cruises, which Alaska was her favorite, as well as many Country Music cruises where they met new people who shared their interests. Jo Ann was a very talented seamstress, and she liked crocheting and knitting. She also loved gardening flowers, especially her orchids. She was musically talented and played the guitar and the mandolin. There were many jam sessions at their house and at the Masonic Lodge her husband belonged to. Jo Ann was a great cook who loved preparing Tennessee style dishes for her family who enjoyed the spicy flavors. Her thanksgiving cornbread sage dressing was a fan favorite, as well as her chess pie and biscuits & gravy with a little hot sauce. Jo Ann was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
