Joan Marie Fischer

Joan Marie Fischer (nee Pennington), of St. Louis, MO, formerly of New Orleans, LA, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at the age of 72. Beloved daughter of the late John M. and Dorothy A. Pennington; devoted mother of Nathan (Agnes) Fischer; cherished grandmother of Veronika and Oscar; dear sister of James M Pennington, Mary L. (Mike) Parmer, Paul S. (Diana) Pennington, Judy A. (John) Buback, Carol J. (Troy) Wright, Roger A. Pennington, and John T. (Victoria) Pennington; aunt, cousin and friend to many. Joan is also a dear friend of Joyce (Benjy) Levin. She is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph H. Pennington. Joan held a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from University of Holy Cross as well as a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She was a licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Nationally Certified Counselor, certified in Reality Therapy/Choice Theory, as well as trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. She also held the title of Director of the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center as well as impacted many different school systems including Sappington Elementary and Fairmount Schools in St. Louis, and St. Cletus School in New Orleans, master’s programs, and health rehabilitation programs. Joan held the values to always care for others’ needs before her own. She was a selfless woman who left an impression on anyone she met or worked with. Joan had a servant heart and wouldn’t hesitate to volunteer for her community through the different organizations she was a part of. Overall, she thrived in the classroom as both student and teacher. She excelled at helping others to do their best work and live their best lives. Joan cherished the time she spent with her family. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and was very supportive of her son. She also enjoyed going on trips with her family to make everlasting memories.
