Joan Ellen Owens

Joan Ellen Owens nee Schmidt, daughter of the late Margaret L. Cupp, was born August 4, 1937, at St. Louis, Missouri. She entered into eternal rest October 30, 2024, at the age of eighty-seven years.

On October 30, 2008, she was married at West Plains, Missouri, to Carl Eugene Owens, Senior. Joan was an outgoing person that if you ever met her, you did not forget her! She was known to speak her mind and to be "sassy.”

She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were the bright spot in her day. She was an all or nothing kind of person; if she did something, she did it all the way. From collecting antiques, (she once turned that hobby into a business and owned an antique store), baseball cards or sports cards, crocheting, jewelry making, needlepoint, bingo, lottery cards, or scratch offs, she was all in! Moreover, she once won big at scratch offs!

She is survived by four children, Donna Cherry and husband, Keith, Carl Owens, Jr. and wife, Elaine, Eugenia Bauer and husband, Joe, and Margaret Swafford. She is also survived by four stepchildren, Marcel Wray and husband, Kevin, Linda Owens, Marcus Owens, and Melissa Bradshaw; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Janis Nogle, one brother, Harland Cupp, and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband Carl E. Owens, Sr., mother, Margaret L. Cupp, sister Diane Sullivan, former husband Lawrence J. Swafford, granddaughter, Cara Owens, grandson, Gary House, great-grandson, Nathen Stone, preceded her in death.
