Joan Schwendeman

Joan Marie Schwendeman (nee Dickherber), of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the age of 81. Beloved wife of the late William Dale Schwendeman; cherished daughter of the late Alfred and Helen Dickherber. Devoted mother of Tina Schwendeman, Debra (Kevin) Call, Keith (Lori) Schwendeman, Stacy (Tim) Stewart, Eric (Jill) Schwendeman, Kevin (Jill) Schwendeman, and Sara (Samara Peddle) Schwendeman; loving grandmother of Allison (Mario) Gamez, Dillon Schwendeman, Madeline Stewart, Cole Schwendeman, Jacob Schwendeman, Ryan Schwendeman, Gavin Stewart, Grant Schwendeman, and Anders Schwendeman; dear sister of Betty Dickherber, and Patricia (Jim) McMenamy; sister-in-law of Judy (Tom) Sachs, Linda (the late Tom) Tucker, and Gary Schwendeman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins. Preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Dickherber, Don (the late Ann) Dickherber, and David (Mary Ann) Dickherber; three sisters, Ruth Ann Dickherber, Margie (Joe) Wolf, and Rosemary (the late Ron) Brown.

She loved to sew, creating many Halloween and pageant costumes for her children and grandchildren. She filled her life with color through her joy of gardening. Always the fun and thoughtful hostess, she extended invitation after invitation to share her home for holidays and parties. And oooohhhh the cookies! Joan could be found biking 20 miles on the Katy trail or playing 18 holes on the golf course. She did not love just one way; she loved each one of her seven children and nine grandchildren in a way special to them, nurturing and helping them to become fully who they are. Joan was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
