Joan C. Whitehead

Joan C. Whitehead (nee Rock), of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the age of 80.  Loving wife of 62 years to Robert E. Whitehead; beloved daughter of the late Hazel L. and Jake Rock; devoted mother of Mark (Vicky) Whitehead, Dayna (Dale) Shelton, and Dawn O'Brien; cherished grandmother of Danielle (Kirk) Hoggatt, Austin Whitehead, Ian (Katie) Shelton, Ariana (Daniel) Bennick, Mackenzie (Josh Adams) O'Brien, and Aaron (Amanda Beatty) O'Brien; treasured great-grandmother of Dawson Caldwell, Brantley Orf, Rhyett Shelton, Ruth Shelton, and Baby Adams on the way; dear sister of Linda (the late Jack) Whitehead.

Joan retired after more than 35 years with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as a City Desk Secretary.  She enjoyed her co-workers and loved proofing the obituaries for the paper.  Upon retirement, she and her husband were able to take to the road more often and enjoy their love for travel.  Some of Joan’s favorite places to visit were Florida and Hawaii, especially to go to the beach.

Most important to Joan was her family, and she loved attending her grandkids sporting events and recitals. In her free time, Joan enjoyed painting and crafts.  She also liked tending to her plants around the house.  She always looked forward to spending time at the lake, boating, and camping with her family.

Joan was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the donor's choice.
