Joella Berneice Vordtriede (nee Davis), age 75, of OFallon, Missouri, September 29, 2017. Beloved wife of Robert Vordtriede; cherished daughter of the late Negro League Hall of Famer, Ross “Satchel” Davis and the late Gladys Mildred and Carl Jones; devoted mother of Richard McNeil, Jr., Danielle Elaine McNeil, Carolyn Lorraine (Charles) Jackson, Eric Lawrence (Cheryl) McNeil, Robert Anthony (Cate) Vordtriede, Kristin Elizabeth (Michael) Farrell, and the late Paul Byron Vordtriede; dear mother-in-law of Sarah Vordtriede Patton: loving grandmother of 16; treasured great-grandmother of 9; and dear sister of Gladys Marie Washington and the late Honorable Senator Paula J. Carter. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
Joella was educated in the St. Louis Public Schools. She acquired an associate degree in Business Administration and was licensed in cosmetology, realty and nursing. She owned her own cosmetology business. She was a member of Church on the Rock. She was a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31). She was classy and articulate about her work, family and leisure. She loved painting, drawing, gardening, decorating and scrapbooking. She also enjoyed cooking and was especially known for her delicious homemade rolls. Joella loved living a healthy life and helping others be healthy. Some of her favorite activities included yoga, reading, traveling, event planning, walking and family time. She enjoyed TV programs on HGTV, TLC, QVC and all shows on the OWN network. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
