John Holden Dakins

July 24, 1949 — January 6, 2018

John Holden Dakins, of Hazelwood, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 68.

Beloved husband of 42 years to Marianne (nee Ziegler) Dakins; son of the late Dr. Norman and Neva Dakins; devoted father of Chris (Clair) Jordan, Kym (Ben) Williams, Jennifer Marisa Heil; and Jonathan Dakins; loving grandfather of Riley, Ciara, Ella, Morgan, Bailey, and Riley; and dear brother of Diana Collett, Nicholas Dakins, and Bradley Dakins.

John had a life full of adventure, including a 30+ year career in radio where he was heard on the air as Chuck Roberts in Detroit, Lansing, St. Louis, New York, Chicago, San Diego, Minneapolis, Boston, and San Antonio  He transitioned from radio to IT, working at Nestle-Purina for over a decade. He was a member of Mensa and attended Harvard University. Upon retiring, he enjoyed sailing on his beloved Hallberg Rassy and often spent winters in the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, and southern Florida with his wife and many sailing friends. Most of all John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
