John “Jack” Flood

August 3, 1936 — March 16, 2010

John "Jack" Flood, of Wentzville, Missouri, died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the age of 73. Loving husband and best friend of Laverne Helene Flood (nee: Lammers) for 55 years, devoted father of John (Susan) Flood, Christine (Chuck) Grugett, and Deborah (Robert) Phillips, and dear son of Louise M. Flood. Cherished grandfather of Heather Flood, Julianne (Joe) Bickell, Robert (Rachel) Phillips, Anthony Phillips, Daniel Phillips, Gina (Jason) Berg, Steve Hart and great-grandfather of Jeffrey Grasshoff, Craig Sutberry, Samantha Sutberry, Ellie Bickell, Garrett and Carter Berg. Dear brother of Richard Flood and Mary Goodson. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father John A. Flood and his sister-in-law Mary Flood. John "Jack" married LaVerne Helene Lammers on 12/24/1954. He worked at Rapp's as his full time job. He was also an auxiliary policeman for both St Ann and Breckenridge Hills until he turned 21, then worked part time as a policeman in Breckenridge Hills, MO. They started their life together in a house on Coles Avenue in Overland, MO with LaVerne's mom. John Jr. was born in 1955. John changed careers after Johnny was born which began his machinist career. When Chris was born in 1957, they realized they had outgrown the house and purchased their first home in 1959 in Burke City, MO on Williams Blvd. Debbie was born in 1964, they again realized they were outgrowing the house, but this time, decided to build on to the existing home. It was in this house that John really got into major construction and involved the entire family, as well as the neighbors. They remained in this house for a total of 39 years, the kids were raised and moved on. One day John came home from work and asked LaVerne if she wanted a horse - their lives changed that day. One could say that they finally outgrew that house as well, the subdivision did not allow horses! So, with the new addition to the family, they needed a barn and pasture so it was then they made the move to Wentzville in 1993. John spent the last years of his working career at Wainright Industries. He loved his work in the Quality department and took great pride. His coworkers were his extended family and he truly missed them after his retirement in 1999. John & LaVerne enjoyed traveling in their motorhome with their dear, longtime friends Jack and Barb. Dad was content sitting in a chair watching the waves at the beach, while mom would want to go for a walk or shop. On a nice day at home, you would find him outside either in the barn tinkering on his Ford 9N tractor, mending fence or cutting grass. Sometimes they would just sit and listen to the quiet and watch Kylie (their dog) and Fancy (horse) roam around. John was a good, honest, hard working man. He was a loving husband, a respected and much loved father and friend to his children, and a wonderful grandpa and great grandpa that will truly be missed. LaVerne remained by 's side through the horrible illness that eventually took his life - she loved him unconditionally, through the good times and the bad. We love you , Dad, Grandpa and Friend. We will always honor you in the way we live our lives and in our hearts with our memories of you. Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
