John Irwin Nold, safe in the arms of His Savior Jesus, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2013 at the age of 79. A St. Charles resident for almost 50 years, John was born on November 3, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan and baptized to be a child of God. John grew up in Montpelier, Ohio where he graduated from Montpelier High School in 1952. After graduation, John attended The Ohio State University where he excelled in math and physics and served in the United States Navy as an electronics technician at the end of the Korean War. On August 22, 1958, John married the love of his life, Gerri Gordon. Several years later they moved to St. Charles, Missouri where John accepted a position in flight simulation with the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation. John continued to work in flight simulation for over 35 years, through the McDonnell-Douglas merger and later as an employee of Boeing. Although John enjoyed his career in flight simulation, he found his greatest joys in his beloved family. John is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Gerri; his children, Eric and Nikki (Dan) Layer of St. Peters, Missouri; and his three grandchildren: Jacob, Christopher, and Abigail Layer. He was preceded in death by his infant son Peter; his parents, Victor and Helen; and his sister Mary (Jameson).
