John Orby Morris of Saint Peters, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Wilma Morris of 63 years; cherished son of the late Chester and Bessie Morris; devoted father of Debbie Morris, Russell Morris, and Sandy Sundmacher; loving grandfather of Sherri (James) Preston, David (Sheila) Morris, Gina Morris, Jennifer Morris, Daniel Sundmacher, David (Gina) Sundmacher, and Michael (Samantha) Sundmacher; treasured great-grandfather of Seth, Colten, Caleb, Jessica, Kaylee, Cody, Collin, Lilly, Amory, Carly and Beckham; adored great-great grandfather of Chloe and Cooper.
John proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He then went on to work in the civil service of the army as an aeronautical engineer. After retiring from the civil service, he started his own business, Buck Stoves of St. Peters for over 30 years.
He was a deacon and board chair member at First Baptist Church and member of American Legion Post 313. During his terms as Mayor of St. Peters, John was instrumental in building the water treatments plants of St. Peters and establishing Mid Rivers Mall. John was a hardworking and dedicated man, who was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great- grandfather. He enjoyed skiing, boating, traveling all over US and abroad, as well as hunting and fishing. John received a Commendation from President Gerald Ford in 1976 for his dedication to the government in cost savings. John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
