John Wyhs

June 4, 1925 — January 25, 2018

John Irwin Wyhs, 92, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018, in St. Charles.

John was born on June 4, 1925, in St. Charles, the third of four sons of Frank and Irene (Tayon) Wyhs, and was a lifelong resident of St. Charles County. He grew up living on the campus of Lindenwood College, where his father was caretaker and chauffeur to the college president. He attended Borromeo Catholic School and Church as a youth, and then St. Charles High School.

John served in the army in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was very proud of his service to his country. Upon his return, John worked for the telephone company for a short time and then spent a long career as a supervisor at McDonnell Douglas.

John married Rosalie Kaase on January 7, 1950 at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ) in St. Charles. They became the parents of Nancy and Bruce.

John enjoyed building and repairing things, and built the family home in St. Charles County and a lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks, where his family and friends enjoyed over 50 years of summer fun. He also liked to help others with construction and repair projects. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and researching various topics on his computer. Insuring that his family was well cared for was the most important goal of John's life. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

John is survived by his daughter, Nancy Wyhs, of Troy and son Bruce Wyhs of Overland Park, Kansas; two step granddaughters, Teresa Tulipana and Laura (Keith) Grochowsky; 2 step great- grandchildren, Ian and Erin Grochowsky; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Irene Wyhs;, his wife, Rosalie Wyhs; his brothers, Austin, Joseph (Bud), and Charles; sisters-in-law, Mary Wyhs and Rose Wyhs; and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Wyhs.
