Jon David Larson, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the age of 78. He was a chemical engineer for Monsanto Co. for over 30 years and also Solutia and Hansen Engineering. He received the Professional Engineer license in 1970.
Jon was born in Riceville, IA on March 7, 1944, to the late David and Vera (Benson) Larson and grew up in Cresco, IA. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1967 with a degree in chemical engineering. He was married to Sharon (Hastie) Larson in 1964 for 58 years.
Jon was a worldwide traveler as a part of his job. His career assignments led him to travel and explore the world. Jon and Sharon met at a college dance and, as a couple, continued dancing for many years. They also enjoyed travelling together to the British Isles, Europe, Asia, and the United States. Jon was steadfast in his faith. He was a faithful member of St. Cletus Church, attending mass daily after his retirement.
Jon was known for his strong work ethic, intelligence and sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, music and all sports, especially golf, fishing, and bowling. He particularly enjoyed taking his grandsons on many fishing and camping trips to Bennett Springs, MO. He also acted as the volunteer bowling coach at a local high school for several years while his grandsons were in school.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon of St. Charles; his two children, Lisa Foster-Larson and Mark Larson of St. Charles; his two grandsons, Shaun Foster of St. Peters and Matt (Jill) Engel of Derby, Kansas; his three great-grandchildren, Zoey Foster of St. Peters and Emmett and Tucker Engel of Derby, Kansas; his two brothers, Allan (Donna) Larson of Naperville, Illinois and Jim (Brenda) Larson of Cresco, Iowa; his two sisters, Anne (Pat) Larson of Ankeny, Iowa and Jean (Roger) Giffen of Tucson, Arizona; his sister-in-law, Janet Larson of Traer, Iowa; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mark T. Larson; and his grandparents, Hans and Anna Larson.
