Pastor Joseph Lorsung, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Deborah Lorsung; devoted father of Anna (John) Sanderson, Josiah (Hannah) Lorsung, Sam (Caitlin) Lorsung, Joe Lorsung and Angela (Corey) Markuson, loving grandfather of six grandchildren; dear brother of fifteen siblings and survived by Rose (Julie) Lorsung. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adella and Adelbert Lorsung.
Joe spent his life as a pastor and church planter. He worked on missions and in homeless shelters throughout his life and this meant a lot to him. He did missions to Mexico and Downtown Twin Cities. He often preached at the Salvation Army and in the prison system. He took homeless children to church camp, and he always opened his home to anyone in need to help them get back on their feet. He treated everyone like family and made sure everyone felt welcome.
Joe had the heart of a pastor while also spending fifty years as a contractor and business owner. He also loved refurbishing antique furniture and enjoyed bringing pieces back to their original, beautiful condition. He loved gardening and his prized possessions were his rose bushes. He was an avid golfer, playing with his church buddies. Joe’s favorite memory was getting a hole in one the first time he took his daughter out. And much to his wife's dismay, collecting and losing innumerable coffee cups. The one thing people will miss most about him is his incredible laugh. Joseph was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
