Joseph Owen Myers III, born March 18, 1971, passed away July 16, 2019, and is now in the care of Our Lord. He was the beloved oldest son of Barbara (Donald) McCann (nee Wilhelm) and Eric G. Myers, and step-son to John L. Irwin. Joe married Cynthia Jane Bodecker and they had 5 beautiful children, Abigayle Marie Myers, Andrew Robert Myers, Austin Joseph Myers, Alex Michael Myers, and Adam Zachary Myers. He was cherished grandfather to Hadley Elizabeth Myers. He was a dearest brother to John Daniel (Sara) Irwin, Paul James (Lauren) Irwin, Megan Elizabeth McCann, and Eric Myers. He was a dear son, brother, father, husband, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.
Joseph was the dearly loved grandson of Elizabeth Jean Wilhelm and the late Robert F. Wilhelm, Sr., the late Joseph O. Sr. and Letha A. Myers, and the late George and Jean Irwin.
Joe attended Ballwin Elementary School and Lafayette High School, where his schoolmates knew him as Joe Irwin. He studied Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park.
Joseph was a talented cook and was the Food Service Manager for Sodexo at the Central Missouri State University and Malone College in Canton, Ohio
Joe was happiest when he was helping people. After the tornado in Jefferson City, he delivered food and water to workers and helped neighbors with the cleanup. He had recently become involved with Building Community Bridges, a not for profit organization that has developed a community center and learning center.
The past few years Joe suffered with alcohol addiction and a traumatic brain injury. His struggle was never-ending, and although he seemed to have finally found a life for himself with the help of a Pathways counselor and friend, Jason Edvall, he could not overcome the powerful and horrible disease.
We are heartbroken over the loss of Joe, and pray that he is finally at peace in the care of Jesus.
