Drachnik, Joseph Stephen passed away April 25, 2012 at Delmar Gardens of O'Fallon after a long time illness. Husband of Shirley (nee McNamara); father of Stephen and Scott; father-in-law of Carol (nee Thone) and Debi (nee Bryan); grandfather of Christopher and Ryan, son of Stephen and Carol; grandfather of Jonathan and Brennen, sons of Scott and Debi; grandfather-in-law of Amanda (nee Powers) wife of Christopher. Brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and associate. A graduate of Washington University, he worked for Bank Building, May Centers, and Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HOK). Joe was involved in projects around the world which included Nile Tower in Egypt, King Saud University and Center Missile Control Center in Saudi Arabia, various U.S. Embassies, and St. Louis Union Station Renovation and Redevelopment. Joe was on the Board of Directors of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), judge for Junior Achievement, member of the Boy Scout Council, antique appraiser for Regent Parade, American history and Civil War buff, and pet lover. Joe served in the Far East Command on Okinawa and Japan as a member of the Army Occupational Forces in World War II. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict and served at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association.
