Josephine Ann “JoAnn” Hesskamp

September 11, 1937 — June 29, 2019

Hesskamp (Sonderegger), Josephine Ann age 81, Saturday, June 29, 2019. Josephine was born September 11, 1937 in St. Louis Mo. She married the late Arnold J. Hesskamp on April 16, 1955 at the Evangelical & Reformed Church of Ferguson. Called “JoAnn” by many, she was best known as the proprietor of Hesskamp’s Ceramic Studio located in Old Towne St. Peters, MO during the 70’s and 80’s.

Josephine was a talented and award- winning painter and ceramist. One of her fondest memories from her youth was working at the Savoy Record Mart in Ferguson MO at the age of 16 where she met many up and coming performers. She also shared many memories of days spent at the Ferguson Bake Shop where her father, and her Uncle Erwin were bakers. Josephine was also a wonderful baker and, like her mother, a great cook. She enjoyed her family gathering together for meals, crazy conversations, and much laughter.

Josephine and Arnold moved their young family to Karmel Woods Subdivision located on the Mississippi river in St. Charles County in 1962. The family had many adventures and memorable moments on the river with neighbors, family, and friends, as well as the challenge of dealing with annual floods. In Josephine’s later years she received the most joy spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Our family loving referred to her as the Matriarch as we all turned to her for guidance and support. Josephine’s grace, kindness, and humor has touched many. We will keep her with us through the beautiful memories and the love we hold for her in our hearts.

Josephine and Arnold had three children: Arnold Hesskamp (Joyce) of St. Charles County, MO, Clifford Hesskamp (Joan) of St. Charles MO, and Cynthia Ann Morgan of St. Peters, MO. Josephine was the loving grandmother of Crystal Morgan Tomlinson, Trixy Hesskamp Zielke and Dustin Hesskamp and the cherished great-grandmother of Mia Jean Tomlinson, Taylor Ann Tomlinson, Kylee Christine Zielke, and Paxton Paul Zielke, along with a new little Zielke and a new little Hesskamp due to arrive soon. She is survived by her brothers Donald Sonderegger and Theodore Sonderegger. Josephine was the daughter of the late Arnold and Josephine Sonderegger (Uetrecht). She was also a dear Aunt, Great Aunt and Friend.
