Joyce Louise Ohlms

September 6, 1937 — January 18, 2024

O'Fallon, Missouri

Joyce Louise Ohlms (nee Monroe), of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the age of 86. Loving wife of the late Donald J. Ohlms, married November 28, 1957; beloved daughter of the late George Monroe and Genevieve Bonnot and beloved step-daughter of the late Glennon Bonnot; devoted mother of Dayna (Dr. Jerry) Flint, Cheryl (Peter) Perkins and Todd (Erin) Ohlms; dear sister of Judith Bowden; cherished grandmother of Bayley (Matthew) Johnson, Abigail Perkins, Joseph Ohlms and Grace Ohlms; aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Joyce, a beloved soul with a heart full of warmth and generosity, found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her passion for cooking, baking and serving others was a testament to her nurturing spirit. Always attentive, she took the time to discover your favorite meal and delighted in sharing it with you later.

For over two decades, Joyce was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, where she was dedicated to volunteering, serving at luncheons and cooking for the priests. Her hands were not only skilled in the culinary arts but also in needlepoint and knitting

A role model to many, Joyce exuded love. Her fierce devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. As a member of a ladies' card club for over 50 years, she cultivated enduring friendships and shared moments of joy.

Professionally, Joyce contributed to the world of aviation, working at Trans World Airlines, and found joy helping others during their travels and exploring new horizons through her own travels. She eagerly anticipated family and friend gatherings.

In her unwavering support of her husband, Don, and the teams he coached at Chaminade, Joyce exemplified pride and dedication. Each year, she looked forward to meeting the athlete who had been awarded the scholarship named in honor of her husband.

Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness, and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Memorials may be made in Joyce's name to Donald J. Ohlms '53 "Red Devil" Memorial Scholarship at Chaminade College Preparatory School or Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
