Judith Anne Thomasson (nee: Jenkins)

Thomasson, Judith A. (nee: Jenkins), of St. Louis, MO, died on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the age of 82. Born September 17, 1934 in St. Charles, MO to Dr. Joseph M. Jenkins, MD, and Rose Schroeder Jenkins. She was the mother of Anne Jenkins Thomasson. A graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, St. Charles, she received Bachelor of Journalism and Master of Arts in English degrees from the University of Missouri in Columbia. She was a member of Kappa Alpah Theta sorority.

Judy Worked in book publishing, beginning in 1958 with the University of Missouri Press as Secretary to the founding Director, William Peden, and Editorial Assistant; for the Yale University Press; and the Farrar, Straus and Cudahy (now Farrar, Straus and Giroux) in New York City. She was a reporter and feature writer for several newspapers, including the St. Louis Globe-Democrat (1962-1964). She taught Freshman Composition and Commercial Writing at the fledgling University of Missouri at St. Louis (1964-66).

In 1966, she married Donald P. Thomasson of Cape Girardeau. That union ended in divorce.

Judy worked at Paul’s Books in University City from 1977 to 1980, when she joined the old Clayton Brokerage Company, with responsibility for commodity research publications and printed materials for the firm nationwide. A year later, she accepted a position as Editor for Futures Research Publications with Smith, Barney, Harris & Upham in New York City. She returned to St. Louis in 1987 and joined the local office of Towers Perrin, an international management consulting firm, as in-house editor.

Judy retired due to illness in 1996; in ensuing years, her activities were limited by chronic pain.

In addition to her daughter, Anne and son-in-law Chris Ross of St. Louis, she is survived by a brother, James M. (Jeanne) Jenkins of Leawood, KS, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a half-brother and three half-sisters.

Arrangements by Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson St., St. Charles, MO. The body was cremated. Memorials may be made to the Granite City Association for the protection of Animals, P. O. Box 1311, Granite City, IL 62040 or the Trinity Episcopal Church food program, 600 North Euclid Ave., St. Louis, MO 63018.
