Karen A. Hinkel
October 16, 1953 — May 13, 2022
Karen Ann Hinkel “Candy”, of Saint Charles, MO, was born on October 16, 1953, to Harold and Ruth Bowden. Karen passed away Friday, May 13, 2022, at the age of 68. Karen is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold Charles Bowden, Jr. “Skip”. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Chester Hinkel; daughters, Penny Leisure and Lesley Hinkel; a granddaughter, Marissa Leisure and great-grandson, Abel Jeffers. Karen was affectionately known as Candy. She was a long-time member and believer in The Al-Anon Program where she made many friends and lifelong relationships. She was a homemaker who would help anyone, anyway she could. She was always willing to donate her time, money and help to anyone who needed it. Karen loved animals and had many pets throughout her life. She never met an animal she didn’t want to pet – even the neighbors’ dogs. Karen was an avid knitter. She loved to knit baby blankets and booties, potholders and book covers. She also enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with her friends and family. She may not have been able to name them all or even see them very well on the field, but she was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to cheer them on for a win. Karen was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The ALS Foundation, ACS Foundation, The AHA Foundation or the ASPCA.
