Karen Rose Kos (nee Diggins), of St. Charles, MO, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the age of 79. Loving wife of the late James Kos, Sr.; beloved daughter of Ronald and Orpha Lenore (Alban) Diggins; devoted mother of James (Patricia) Kos, Jr., Steven (Susan) Kos, Kevin Kos, and Brian (Stephanie) Kos; dear sister of Janine (the late Larry) Johnson; cherished grandmother of Austin Tumey, Cody Tumey, Steven J. Kos, Kayla (Travis) Long, Hannah Kocsis, Gabrielle Kocsis, Brooklin Kos and Caden Kos and recent great-grandmother of Emma Long.
Born November 20, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Karen graduated from Eagle Grove High School and later received her bachelor’s degree in English from Drake University where she met James. Karen and James were united in marriage on May 2
nd, 1964 in Eagle Grove where Karen would remain as James served in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam War. Following stateside assignments in South Carolina and Oklahoma, they would settle in Florissant Missouri and later St. Charles where they raised four sons.
Following the death of James in 1986, Karen raised their four sons on her own. Karen’s life revolved around her boys, for which her dedication and care helped shape them into college graduates and men of exceptional character. Karen’s love of history, the arts and literature along with her strong intellect remained until the very end.
Along with her husband and parents, in death Karen is reunited with her brothers Ronald and Rodney “Pete” Diggins and sister-in-law Delores Diggins.
Memorials may be made in Karen’s name to the
American Lung Association.
