Mobley, giving her son two younger sisters Mildred and Shirley. In September of 1967, L C left the family home and joined the Army to serve his county when many others his age were seeking deferments. After a tour in Vietnam, he remained in the Army for over 22½ years, retiring March 1, 1990.
He completed high school and over the course of his time military earned enough credits to obtain a degree in independent studies.
L C was an avid collector; he liked to collect toys, baseball cards, and finally art. L C took great pride tending to his flower garden and yard. When he put his mind to something, he could do it no matter how difficult.
He married Jean Tyler (Jean Tyler-Fortenberry) in April of 2004. However, two previous marriages yielded one son each, Leslie Charles Fortenberry and DeAndre Jamal Fortenberry.
He is preceded in death by his mother & stepfather who he thought of his natural father.
Left to mourn his passing are Leslie Charles Fortenberry and DeAndre Jamal Fortenberry, two sisters, their husbands Mildred (Waldo) White and Shirley (Ralph) Franklin, other family, friends and his wife of 17 years, Jean, who was with him at the time of his death. L C was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
