Larry Franklin Martin 79 passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014, in the comfort of his St. Charles home. Larry was born in Sandy Ridge, Stokes County, North Carolina, the son of Robert Lee and Nina Woods Martin.
A blessed day occurred on July 25, 1956, at the First Baptist Church of Madison, North Carolina, when Larry married the girl of his dreams, the lovely and ever-lively Mable Gray Richardson. Subsequent blessings came in 1957 with the birth of his daughter Robin and later in 1969 with the arrival of his son Larry Jr.
Master Sergeant Larry Martin served twenty two years in the United States Air Force as an instructor of avionics and an avionics aerospace ground equipment technician. He concluded his military career in 1975 with a honorable discharge.
Always one to spot a good opportunity, he then embarked upon a new career with Honeywell Inc. in 1975, retiring twenty years later amidst the admiration and many kudos of his cohorts.
Larry enjoyed a rich and varied life and his interests reflected this diversity. He was a lover of the outdoors, an avid sports fan, and a skilled tinkerer of every new technological curiosity. But he took certain pride and joy in his family, especially with the arrivals of his two grandchildren, Amanda Lynn and Nathan Gray. His stature, clear-mindedness, Southern values, and especially his love will be sorely missed.
Larry is survived by his children Robin Merrill (Tony) and Larry Franklin Martin Jr. (Kimberly), grandchildren Amanda Page Karleskint (Rob) and Nathan Gray Martin, his sister Annapearl Riggs, and his darling wife of fifty seven years Mable Gray. He was preceded in death by his brothers Dean, Robert, Billy and Danny.
The family gives thanks to SSM Hospice, The Hands to Hearts Caregivers, and St. Peter's Senior Center for their caring and compassionate assistance.
Visitation will be at the Baue Funeral Home, Jefferson Street, St. Charles, on Friday, March 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a brief service following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
