Lawrence Lee Cantrell was born January 4, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, to parents Lee and Harriett (Ward) Cantrell. He passed away on December 3rd, 2020, in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Larry was the youngest of three siblings, twin sister Lorene (Davis) and oldest sister Virginia (Ripps). He graduated from Paseo High School, where he was voted “Best Looking.” He also humbly served in the Missouri National Guard.
His first job was at a foundry and eventually began working for the Missouri Credit Union League. He started as a teller and then began working as an installer/technician/systems engineer setting up new credit unions. The Missouri Credit Union League was bought by EDS where he retired in 1996. He ended his time with EDS as a manager due to his incredible character and hard work ethic. He loved working with people, so after retirement, he worked in the hardware departments for HQ and Walmart. People would say they only wanted Larry mixing their paint!
He met his wife, Frankie, at church, and they were married on September 1, 1962. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri, and after a promotion for Larry, were transferred to St. Louis in 1976 through his retirement. They later moved to Texas in 2013 to be closer to family.
Larry loved the Lord with all his heart and exemplified Him in all he did. He was a faithful and committed church member. He taught Sunday school, was an ordained deacon and played guitar for worship service and special music. He was willing to serve in any way needed. Anyone who knew Larry knew he not only shared his faith openly, he walked it as well in how he lived his life and served others. He and Frankie were most recently members of First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells, Texas, but served for many years at First Baptist Church Lake St. Louis in Missouri.
Larry's passion was his guitar and Jazz music. He played in many groups over the years and was actively playing and learning about music his entire life. He was also a big Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals fan and rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved horses. For a time, he had two horses at their home, which his daughters and grandchildren got to enjoy as well. He also used that love of horses and helping others by volunteering at the Therapeutic Horsemanship organization, whose purpose was to help disabled children and adults as they learned to ride horses.
Larry was always fun to be around. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a witty and quick comeback. He was always pleasant and kind, so much so that his nurses often said they wished everyone could be like him and did not hesitate to express their love for him to his daughters.
He was a loving husband of 58 years, a father, uncle, grandfather, and brother.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Terri Carrington and her husband, Doug, of St. Louis, MO, and Tina Altum and her husband, Lawrence, of Graford, TX, grandchildren Ashley Carrington, Skyler Carrington, and Samuel Altum, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frankie, parents, sister Virginia, and grandsons Nathan and Lance Carrington.
