She is also preceded in death by her sister, Shirley (the late Jack) Paulus.
LaVerne, a remarkable individual, dedicated her life to service, family, and a multitude of passions. As a Stephen Minister, she offered support and care to those in need. Her involvement in the Alter Guild and other groups at Zion Lutheran Church, Harvester, showcased her commitment to her faith community. LaVerne’s vibrant spirit extended beyond the church, as she actively participated in the St. Charles Extension Club, Welcome Wagon and numerous bridge groups, and also volunteered as an usher at the Fox Theater.
In her earlier years, LaVerne spent time dancing with her husband Norm at Casa Loma Ballroom. After her three boys entered the picture, she expressed her adventurous side in waterskiing with Norm and the boys on most summer weekends. In later years, she became a skilled golfer and not only won tournaments but also traveled for the love of the game. Her enthusiasm for football, starting with the football Cardinals, then the Rams, and finally the Kansas City Chiefs, highlighted her love and passion for the game. LaVerne’s culinary talents were evident in her legendary chili, pies, and cookies, as she delighted in baking and sharing her cherished recipes. Married to Norm for an incredible 70 years, they built a life and family together, grounded in love and commitment to each other and to their Heavenly Father. Known for her organizational skills, LaVerne kept everything and everybody in order, from meticulous lists to remembering and celebrating birthdays with heartfelt cards. A breast cancer survivor of over 20 years, she embodied strength, resilience, and the spirit of a true fighter. LaVerne’s absence leaves a void, and her legacy of service, love and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She died nonetheless with firm confidence that her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ would be there to hold her and welcome her into His Glorious Kingdom.
