Lawrence V. "Larry" Ryan, Jr.

Lawrence V. “Larry” Ryan, Jr., of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 79. Loving husband of the late Janice L. Ryan; beloved son of the late Dorothy and Lawrence Ryan, Sr.; devoted father of Laura Rennison, Matt (Rachel) Ryan and Cathryn (Joe) Coleman; cherished grandfather of Isaac Rennison, Caleb Rennison, Wisdom Ryan, Sophia Ryan, Jacob Coleman and Elizabeth Coleman; dear brother of Pat (the late Thomas) Schneider, Toni (Russ) Kammermeyer and Joe (Cathy) Ryan.  

Larry worked as a mechanic for 35 years before he retired and worked in real estate. He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing, camping, birdwatching or being at the farm. He went fishing at Bennett Springs, Sunfish Lake, and the creek at the farm in Mineola. He also looked forward to camping at Sam A. Baker State Park every August with his family. As an adventurer, Larry liked to always find the scenic route to his destinations, so he rarely, if ever, drove in a straight line around St. Charles; he liked to stay off the main roads.   

Larry had a green thumb and enjoyed growing plants indoors and outdoors.  He was a collector of everything; he had collections of coins, stamps and money from around the world. He also had a fine collection of Country Crock butter containers that he considered his version of tupperware.  

“Mr. Fix It,” as Larry was known to his family, could fix just about anything and would not stop trying until it was fixed. He had a little bit of stubbornness in him and was very determined throughout his life. In his free time, he relaxed with an old western or war movie.  

Most important to Larry was his family, and his grandchildren were especially close to him. He adored his wife, Janice, and they did just about everything together through their 38 years of marriage.   

Larry was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence's name to Missouri Botanical Gardens.
