Memorial contributions may be made to SSM Hospice, Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles or Maximum Pulse Dance Co. Beloved husband of the late Ruth M. Gorman; dear son of the late Russell M. and Kitty I. Gorman; loving father of John (Terry) Gorman, Diana Burkholder, Janet Neal and Melissa (Scott) Shockley; proud grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 11; dear brother Bernice Cronk and the late Ferne Smothers. Preceded in death by 1 grandson. Sarge Gorman was the program director for the Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles for over 20 years. For the past 20 years he ran a paper route for the St. Charles County Journal. Master Sergeant Gorman served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean War. Sarge Gorman was born in Iowa in 1922, joined the Marines at 19 to protect our country after the attack at Pearl Harbor. He served his country for 24 years, serving in both World War II and Korea. In 1965 he moved his family to St. Louis and was in chare of the Marine Corps recruiting office in St. Louis. In 1968 he retired from the Marine Corps and as he put it, went on a search for his second career. While working with the construction crew that was clearing the area to put in the pool at the Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles he ran into Chuck Thorne who was the Director of the club at the time. After talking for several house about their lives and work history, Chuck hired him on the spot to be the Aquatic Director. After 2 years as the Aquatic Director, he was promoted to Program Director and stayed at this position for 18 years. In those 18 years he was known affectionately around the club and the town as "Sarge". This nick name stayed with him for the many generations he helped mole through his affiliation with the club. Sarge ran the club with a firm but fair hand and was the father figure for many young men. In 1983 he received the honor of being the United Ways' "Man of the Year". There are a lot of children that have been influenced by his kindness and love the for the work he was able to do at the Boys & Girls Club. He loved every day of the 20 years he was able to make a difference with the children in the Boys & Girls Club organization.
