Russell, Les, of St. Louis, MO, died on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of 59 years to the late Pollyanna Young Russell; cherished son of the late William Russell and Maude Aubuchon; devoted father of Cindy (Doug Brown) Russell and Sandy (Steve) Rosenberg; loving grandfather of Zac (Cindi) Nash and Whitney Nash (Caleb) Woolery; dear brother of Rose (the late Jack) Trembley and Norma (the late Doug) Bradshaw. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Les was preceded in death by four of his siblings, Lillian (Elmer) Perschbacher, Lorraine (Art) Hecke, William (Margaret) Russell, and Eugene (Janet) Russell.
Les proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. In his early years after the war, he worked for John Deere, Atlas, and American Linen. He went on to work at Switzer’s Licorice/Beatrice Foods, where he developed their continuous process production method. He finished his career as Safety Director at Midwest Industrial Rubber. Les was an avid reader and Renaissance man. He was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, ceramics, pottery, photography, and playing guitar. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, parachuting, hunting, fishing, cooking, and gardening. Les lived with gusto and loved the time he spent with family and friends. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
