Interment St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to donor's choice. Gwaltney, Rev. Lester D., of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Allien R. Gwaltney; dear son of the late Truman and Rachel Anna Gwaltney; cherished father of LaDonna Woolsey, Linda (Leon) Midgett, Sandra Jean (Glenn) Silvia and Sherry Lynn (James) O'Connor; dear grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 14; loving brother of Lloyd Gwaltney, Leon Gwaltney, Carlis Gwaltney, Bill Gwaltney, Ruby Martin, Grace Gibson, Verdie Barnett, Nellie Smith, and the late Goldie Settles; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, friend, and Man of God, who ministered to all God's People. He was the founding Pastor of 1st United Pentecostal Church in St. Charles, which began in December 1963. CHURCH HISTORY Rev. and Sis. Gwaltney and their four daughters came to St. Charles, MO in December 1962. Prior to this time the Gwaltneys attended the U. City Church where Bro. Gwaltney served many years as Sunday School Supt. and Assistant Pastor to Rev. Roam. The 1st United Pentecostal Church service held in St. Charles was in a small store building with an attendance of 42, which included visitors from the St. Charles area, officials and ministers from other churches, along with Rev. Roam. Within six months, the congregation had outgrown their small church on 3rd Street and Wilkinson. They then moved into a larger building on the corner of Cunningham and Trendley. The LORD blessed in might ways and added new members to the church. By the help of the LORD the congregation built a new church on Fairgrounds, and was able to move into it in September of 1964.
