Lewis Thomas Trescott, of O'Fallon, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 86. He was the loving husband of Catherine Trescott and the beloved son of the late Lewis W. and Isa Trescott.
Lewis was a devoted father to the late Dagny Chaney and to Bradley (Sue) Trescott and Angela (Sean) Simmons, and a beloved stepfather to Jack Mudd and Joel (Bobbie) Mudd. He was a cherished grandfather to Madeline, Ben, Miranda, Abbey, Ian, Alex, Nick, Nina, Frankie, and Mickey, and a treasured great-grandfather to Caroline, Carmen, Harper, Nolan, Hudson, Colton, Caden, and Lilly. Lewis was also a dear brother to Beverly Mueller and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Dagny Chaney, and his sisters Kathryn Ricks and Jeanette McMillin.
Born and raised in Elsberry, Missouri, Lewis, known as Sonny in his hometown, spent much of his early life there, raising his children with his first wife, Margaret Parrish. He proudly served two years in the United States Army, stationed in Seattle. Lewis had a lifelong passion for plants and flowers, working in landscaping for much of his career. He also had a deep interest in genealogy and history, enjoyed collecting antique clocks and model ships, and was an avid reader, particularly fond of Charles Dickens.
Lew’s adventurous spirit led him to travel to places like England, Europe, Mexico, and China, where he played a key role in the adoption of his beloved niece, Natalie. For several years, he delighted children and adults alike in his portrayal of Santa Claus during St. Charles' Christmas Traditions on Main Street. Above all, Lew had a gift for making people laugh, and his memory will continue to bring smiles for years to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 1st (Lew’s birthday!) at Piazza Messina, Highway N, Cottleville, MO, at 10:30 am with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lewis’s name to Kiva.org, Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, Razom for Ukraine, Transcontinental Pipeline (tcpipeline.org), or the Elsberry Historic Preservation Society.
Lew will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
