Lloyd Winslow Gross of St Charles, MO, passed away on January 11, 2016, at the age of 86. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Alvin and Agnes Gross.
Lloyd grew up in Chicago and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947. After high school he attended the University of Illinois-Chicago where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He also proudly served his country as a US Marine. He then worked for Northrop Corporation in Los Angeles, California as an aeronautical engineer from 1954 to 1970, and then returned to the Midwest where he worked at McDonnel Douglas from 1971 to 1990, where he worked on, among other things, the Short Take-Off/Vertical Landing design team. Following retirement, he taught computer classes at St Charles Community College.
Lloyd married Ruth Eileen Yerkes in 1953 in Homer Illinois. They have been happily married for 62 years and had three children. Lloyd and Ruth have been members of the First United Methodist Church in St Charles where Lloyd spent many hours volunteering on numerous projects and committees, including the United Methodist Men. He enjoyed model airplane building and gardening and was a voracious reader on subjects such as World War II aircraft and biblical history.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Ruth Gross of St Charles, MO; his sons Leonard and Bryan Gross and his daughter Diane Moyerman; his sister Dorothy O’Leary; and his grandchildren Jeremy, Zach, Wesley and Lucyanna Gross. Lloyd was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Gross.
