Lucy Christine Sprenger (nee Nelson) of O'Fallon, MO, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2021, at the age of 98. Beloved wife of Paul Albert Sprenger for 77 years, 10 months; cherished daughter of the late George Franklin Nelson and Clara Belle VanWinkle Nelson; devoted mother of Sharon Kay Shields, Ruth Ann Folkerts (Jerry), Kenneth Lee Sprenger (Robin), Edith Louise Craig (Alan), and Lynn Marie Holman (James); loving grandmother of 20 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 33 great-grandchildren. Lucy was preceded in death by 2 brothers (Robert and Alvie) and 2 sisters (Ova and Ruth).
Lucy is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Lucy was born in her parents' home in Arkansas. She graduated from Benton High School in Missouri in May of 1941. She and Paul were married in Scott City, MO, in May of 1943.
Lucy was a lifelong homemaker, a longtime member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, as well as of the Concordia Seminary Guild and Gideons International. Her family was her greatest accomplishment. Once, when asked, what was her favorite hobby, she said "people". Lucy was deeply loved and will be immensely missed by all who knew her.
