Lynette C. O'Brien

Lynette C O'Brien (nee Dieckhoff), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at the age of 89. Devoted mother of Debi (Ron) Gravemann and Susan (Roger) Yoakum; stepmother of Carey (Karen) O’Brien, Charlene (Pete) Christian, Sandra (Alan) Gray, Janice (Jim) Cali, Richard O’Brien and Mary (Tim) Vitale; loving grandmother of Dan (Jackie) Gravemann, Sarah Gravemann, Ryan Yoakum and Lauren (Tim) Williams; treasured great-grandmother of Lynette Mae, Reid and Paxton; sister of Howard Dieckhoff; Lynette is preceded in death by her husband, James O’Brien; first husband, Ozzie Gerschefske; parents, Walter and Marie Dieckhoff; and two stepdaughters, Doris Leacock and Constance Bullard.

Following the birth of her two daughters, Lynette went to work as a staff nurse at St. Joseph’s in 1960. She subsequently served as an in-service coordinator, director of nursing and finally as a VP of patient service, before retiring after 35 years. Lynette continued to serve her community on the board of the St. Joseph Foundation, Crisis Nursery, and Children’s Home Society; she also gave her time to Volunteers in Medicine.

Lynette’s first husband, Ozzie Gerschefske passed away in 1993; she then married James O’Brien in 2001; he preceded her in death in 2019. In retirement, Lynette traveled extensively. She was an avid reader and Scrabble player. Lynette had so many friends, her laughter will be missed by all who knew her.
