Mabel E. Macke (nee Knott), of St. Paul, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the age of 90. Loving wife of the late Adolph Joseph Macke; beloved daughter of the late James and Virgie Lee Knott; devoted mother of Mary Macke, Paul Macke, Karen (Ronald) Flynn, Anita (Jeffrey) Trogden, Dennis Macke, Curtis (Linda) Macke, and Michael Macke; cherished grandmother of Kristyn Trogden, Kathryn Trogden, Andrew Trogden, Devon Macke, and Benjamin Macke; dear sister of Margaret (the late Jerry) Brown, Pat (Edna Mae) Knott, Mary Frances (the late Robert) Smith; dearest sister-in-law of Mary “Gene” Knott, Lura Macke, Wanda Macke, and Faye Deem. Mabel was also preceded in death by her siblings, William, Charles, James Eugene, Sr. Mary Mercedes, Sr. Jamesetta, Mary Agnes, and Mary Mercedes Knott.
Mabel was a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and she was very active and involved, especially with the Prolife committee and attending adoration in the chapel. She was also a member of the Ladies Red Hat Society, and she had so much fun attending their events.
Mabel had a true green thumb and enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She had a knack for canning just about anything she grew in her garden and making delicious treats for her family, including fruits, vegetables, jams, spaghetti sauce, and apple sauce. Mabel was best known though for her wonderful homemade pies.
As a dedicated homemaker, Mabel believed not just in spring cleaning, but in the fall as well, and with seven children she made sure the house was cleaned from top to bottom. She kept things orderly and neat, and she knew exactly where everything was supposed to be.
Mabel was very independent, strong, and maybe a little stubborn at time, but incredibly loving. She was greatly loved by her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Mabel's name to
Prolife or
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Masses.
