Marcella Rose Canning
August 24, 1931 — April 25, 2022
Canning (nee Steffes), Marcella Rose, 90, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church died Monday, April 25, 2022. Loving wife of the late Donald C. Canning; beloved daughter of the late Fred W. & Rosalie C. (King) Steffes; devoted mother of Fred (Lynn) Canning, Michael (Annette) Canning, Susan (Larry) Ruzicka, and Dwight (Mary) Canning; cherished grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 7 with one on the way; treasured sister of Earl Steffes and sister-in-law of Nancy Creel; beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews; and dear friend of Trudy Olree. She is preceded in death by her brother Cletus. Raised in a farming community, she graduated from Marceline High School and worked as a secretary before meeting Don and starting a family. Marcella was a bookkeeper for many years at John F. Kennedy High School and was a licensed realtor. She and Don co-founded Cadon Technical Sales and Caymar Realty. Upon retirement, they traveled to all 50 states and beyond. Marcella loved daily mass, volunteering at both Immaculate Conception Parish in Dardenne Prairie and St. Joseph Parish in Cottleville. She loved reading, book clubs, and regularly volunteered at the Middendorf-Kredell Library in O’Fallon. She was skilled in many areas, including music, knitting, and upholstery. She remained curious all her life and stayed active in the community. She will be greatly missed by family members and friends.
