Behrendt,
Margaret C. (nee Mehrhoff). Went to her maker on June 5, 2020. She was born in St. Louis on June 1, 1923. Beloved wife of the late Roy P. Behrendt. Sister-in-law to Lois Vogt (nee Behrendt). Dear aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, godmother and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marie Mehrhoff (nee Bremehr), four sisters (Viola, Vera, Marie and Delores) and two brothers (Arthur and Harry).
Margaret worked for many years at Alco Valve (now part of Emerson Electric) until she took early retirement with Roy and bought a 65-acre farm outside of Hermann, MO. She and Roy raised cows, chickens, grew vegetables and embarked on many business ventures with the farm. After Roy’s death, she sold the farm and moved to St. Peters, MO to be near her brother, his wife and her dear friend, Fern, their family, and her many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was very artistic. She loved to draw, paint, and do ceramics. She could take any photo and make a drawing of it. She loved to travel with her husband and went to Canada, Egypt, Italy, Germany, France, England, Ireland, and all over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Her only regret was that they were never able to have children, so she treated her many nieces and nephews as her kids.
She was also very involved with her church and the community in Hope, MO. She created a quilt design, depicting the community and the old schoolhouse, that was made into a beautiful quilt by her Quilting Club. Proceeds from the quilts made were used to renovate the Hope Schoolhouse (built in 1886) that now serves as the Hope Community Center.
Margaret was dedicated to family and friends, and dearly loved and cherished by all. Her sweet personality and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew her.
Memorials may be made in Margaret's name to
Alzheimer's Association.
