Piano enthusiast and devoted family matriarch Margaret Mary Coumerilh's love for life and the Lord did not end at death. Known to many as "Marge or Margie," she was called home to her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, September 17th, 2021, at 94 years old. As the only daughter raised with a mix of three brothers, Glen, Andrew, and Raymond born to Thomas and Cecilia Walsh on March 24th, 1927, Marge was instilled with the importance of family at an early age. She accumulated multitudes of photos, letters, family mementos, and years of research throughout her life, resulting in a comprehensive family tree her grandchildren now strive to honor and continue.
While working in the china department at F.W. Woolworth, a young, charismatic redhead teenage Margie met a debonair college student, Oren Kenneth Coumerilh. After three years of dating and engagement permission from her father on Christmas day, they were married on June 22nd, 1946. In the years that followed, they had three mischievous sons and two rambunctious daughters.
Aside from her love of family, the ivory keys, and prestigious room-filling hymns, Marge seeped her passions into other avenues of her life, such as a school bus driver, a piano teacher, a real estate agent, and community leader. She even opened once for international rock star Billy Joel at his very first concert in St. Louis in the early 70's.... before he was an international star.
In her later years, Marge had a love affair with any technical gadget, tacos, and movies. Even when her hearing aids squealed at her in error, she was determined to watch her favorite black and white classics.
In her 94 years of life, Marge was blessed with a saintly husband who preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her five children Ken Coumerilh (Susan), Ron Christensen (Joy), John Coumerilh (Mary Ellen), Mary Kay Caldwell, Marilyn Davis, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
A public visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 13th from 3 to 5pm at the Liberty Church, 709 Crestview Drive, O'Fallon, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to one of your favorite cancer organizations or local churches in Marge's name.
