Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Margaret “Peggie” Sargent entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the age of 98.
Loving wife of the late George “Lloyd” Sargent; beloved daughter of the late Michael D. and Catherine M. Fitzgerald; devoted mother of Gary (Sherry) Sargent, Farrell (Betty) Sargent, Michael (Jackie) Sargent, Mary “Kathy” Weis, Ann (Rick) Hoover and Nora Cardinale; cherished grandmother of Renee (Greg) Witte, Jeffrey (Liane) Sargent, Kurt Sargent, Theresa (Walt) Stillinger, Tammy Sargent, Gloria Sargent, Michael (Dawn) Sargent, Patricia (Bill) Hall, Michelle (Paul) Butler, Shurie (Curt) Grooms, Crystal Biggs, Jason Biggs, Conrad (Melanie) Hoover, Rod (Sabina) Hoover, Chelsea Cardinale, Bradley (Claire) Cooper, Kimberly (Rob) Bates; dear sister to late Julia “Julie” (late Charles) LaBeau, late Michael (Elaine) Fitzgerald, late Edward (late Nora) Fitzgerald, Lillian “Maureen” (Jim) Walsh. Peggie was an aunt, great-aunt and great-great aunt; a great & great-great grandmother and cousin to “dozens of cousins”
Above all else, Peggie was a practical, responsible person. She was employed as a bookkeeper by Beyers Lumber Company for over 50 years and retired when she was 81 years old, and then only because macular degeneration had impaired her eyesight.
All of her life, she was a “good and faithful” servant of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She attended and supported St. Ann’s church in Normandy, MO also for more than 50 years.
While raising her six children, there wasn’t much time for hobbies or activities outside the home, but she and her husband, Lloyd, did enjoy bowling or a good game of canasta at the occasional parish card party. In her later years, because she no longer could see to read, she spent countless hours listening to books. Her favorites were murder mysteries and legal fiction.
She faced many challenges in her life – all without complaint. Her motto could have been “keep calm and carry on” but, most often, she simply would say “accept change.”
Peggie was fiercely independent and always strived to be self-sufficient, never wanting to be a burden to anyone. She always put others’ needs before her own.
To know Peggie was to love and respect her.
In Lieu of Flowers: Masses, or Memorials may be made in Margaret's name to Friends of Wolfner Talking Book and Braille Library, or Mother of Good Counsel Home – St. Louis.
