Margaret Hammons Foegeding passed away on September 2, 2019, just 27 days short of her 98th birthday. She will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, savior of many a stray animal, and as a truly kind person to anyone who had the joy of being her friend.
Margaret was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 29, 1921 to Bennett H. Hammons and Zelta Crisp Hammons. She grew up in Fredericktown, Missouri and as a young woman began work in St. Louis, Missouri, where she met Edward Frank Foegeding – being introduced by Edward’s mother. They married in 1947. Edward was called back into service for the Korean war, precipitating their move to San Diego, California. In 1951, Edward was honorably discharged from the Navy and they returned to Missouri for good. One cannot remember Margaret without mentioning family and friends, as they were dear to her and brought great joy to her life. Her relationship with Edward constantly served as an example that a life based on love, patience, and respect is indeed a wonderful life.
A great cook, Margaret excelled at comfort foods of roasts, stews, and pies. She was always there to help with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in any way possible. The same is true for her relationships with friends, as giving of herself flowed naturally from her personality. She touched countless people in her life with that gift; we mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
Margaret is survived by: her children, Phyllis Kuyath and Allen (JoAnn) Foegeding; four grandchildren, Erin (Dave) Alexander, Patrick (Cristy) Kuyath, Eva (Robbie) Squibb, and Nora Foegeding; and six great-grandchildren, James and Ella Alexander, Parker, Tate, and Tanner Kuyath, and Melanie Squibb; her sister, Lou Stiffler; and her nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, Foristell, MO, memo line: Margaret Foegeding memorial; or an animal charity of the donor’s choice.
