Maria Lynn

Maria Lynn (nee Wells), of Bloomfield, New Jersey, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, at the age of 62, in St. Charles, Missouri, peacefully back home under her sister’s love and care. She is the daughter of the late Daniel Edward Wells and Shirley Ann Shoemate but regarded her Stepfather Marion Shoemate as her dad; dear sister to Lyn (Jerry) Anthoney and Sherry (Bob) Simms, the late Danny Wells, and the late Richard (Mae) Wells; treasured aunt of Stephen (Tina) Anthoney, Korey (Amanda) Simms, Kari (Chad) Henkelman, and Kristy (Alex) Chaparro, and the unconditional love by so many close and dear friends at New Jersey City University.  

Maria dedicated her life to education by spending over 23 years as a tenured professor at New Jersey City University. She attended both Washington University as well as St. Louis University where she completed her PhD Doctorate in Psychology. She was a strong and driven individual and felt passionate about being a mentor and advocate for her many beloved students and coworkers.  

Maria was a free spirit who lived her life her way to make a difference to others. She was an avid runner and enjoyed running Cross country at Lafayette High School in Ballwin, MO before it was a fad to keep her mind and body active. She had a warm heart and a gentle smile and valued those friendships in her life. She had a special place for all furry critters and loved her cats more than anything. Maria was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  

The family wanted to thank all the BJC Neurosurgery Team doctors, nurses and aides that attended to Maria’s needs during this difficult time offering unending support and kindness.  Memorials may be made in Maria 's name to Glioblastoma Foundation (www.glioblastomafoundation.org).
