Marilyn Harris Coble, Lake St. Louis, MO entered heaven on November 8, 2020 at age 96.
She was the dear wife of the late Fred Coble and mother of Carol Coble Allen (Michael), Robert Coble (Jean), Mark Coble (Terry), and Colleen Coble.
Grandmother to Joshua Allen, Jacob Allen, Christian Allen (Cecilia), Harris and Carson Coble, Kathryn Coble Shepherd (Justin), Lauren Coble Garner (Korey), Joseph Coble (Shyenne).
Great-Grandmother to Mason and Madison Allen, Jack and Luke Allen, Rhett and Sawyer Shepherd, Eli and Saylor Garner.
Marilyn devoted her considerable energy to her children and grandchildren but her true passion was directed within the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
Among the myriad positions Marilyn held in her churches and the WMU:
- WMU Director of 5 different Southern Baptist Churches in the St. Louis and St. Charles areas
- Taught Pre-School Sunday School for more than 50 years and was a Church Council Member in every church in which she was a member
- WMU Director for the St. Louis (Regional) Association for 9 years and a Joint Committee member for 20 years
- Assisted in the establishment of the National Baptist and Southern Baptist Women’s Missionary Fellowship Interracial Council
- Chairwoman of the committee that began the Baptist Food Network in the urban core of St. Louis
- Missouri State WMU Executive Board for 16 years
- Missouri State WMU President 2 years
- Missouri State Prayer Coordinator 5 years
- Founded the “PrayerWays” magazine and wrote it for 4 years
- Secretary of the Missouri Baptist Convention
- National Vice-President of the WMU, SBC 2 years
- Conducted WMU Mission trips to Taiwan, Belarus, Russia, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Israel
- Taught prayer at the Baptist Pastors School in Kaduna, Nigeria
- Featured prominently in the book “Until the Stars Appear,” by Randy Sprinkle, about the relationship of prayer and the Missouri Baptist Convention sponsored mission to Lesotho, South Africa
- Awarded a Doctor of Humanities degree from the Pillsbury Institute of Applied Christianity in May 1994
The extended Coble family is extremely proud of Marilyn’s many accomplishments and work within the Southern Baptist Convention. She was also a wonderful mom and grandma.
We will miss her sense of humor, her sarcasm, her love of Scrabble, and her ever-present smile. She loved the Lord and served Him with every fiber of her being. We are thrilled Mom is reunited with our Dad.
