Marion Bowness Hoppe went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 27, 2018, at 95 years of age.
Marion was born to James and Chrisannie Matheson Bowness on November 1, 1922, in East Granville, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was one of seven children, four of whom survived to adulthood. In 1925, the family moved to Ocoee, Florida.
Marion earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics and science education from Florida State University and later a master’s degree in guidance counseling from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. She taught in Titusville, Florida, and New Athens, Illinois, before marrying Alwin W. Hoppe in 1947. The couple had three daughters, and Marion enjoyed staying home with them when they were young. When her youngest daughter entered school, Marion returned to the classroom, teaching in the Jennings School District for 13 years.
Marion was first and foremost dedicated to her faith and her family. She modeled capable womanhood for her daughters, dedicating her intellect, skills and energy to making a home and supporting the family’s well-being. She was smart, a good listener, an encourager, patient, kind, always cheerful and fun.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Jean (Lewis) Dunn, Chris (Jim) Blankenship and Lynn (Bill) Phelps; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews. Her husband of 65 years; brothers, Hartle Bowness and James Bowness; and sister, Lillian Bowness Dunn, preceded her in death.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5: 22-23
