Marlene Carroll

September 25, 1938 — March 23, 2024

Daughter of James F. & Virginia (Lew) Morrissey

Marlene (Morrissey) Carroll (85), salt of the earth and daughter of Ireland, who loved her daughters, dogs, diamonds, decorating, and digging in the dirt, found her heavenly wings on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Marlene‘s no quit attitude paved the way for her marriage to Joe Carroll (1937-2013), her eighth-grade sweetheart, and together they raised two successful, independent daughters: Christina Carroll (O’Fallon, MO) and Kathleen (Carroll) Rawlings (Colleyville, TX). Just as proud as Marlene was of her daughters, she was equally proud of her son-in-law Rick Rawlings and her three grandsons, Matthew Carroll, Adam (Meagan) Rawlings, and Parker Rawlings.

With her brilliant mind and her where there’s a will, there’s a way attitude, Marlene graduated with straight A‘s from St. Alphonsus Rock high school in 1956, and went on to accomplish her greatest life goal, turning a house into a home.

Marlene believed in conserving two things: cash and the environment. Through her ability to find one-of-a-kind garage sale treasures, along with recycling soda and beer cans, she proudly claimed the title environmentalist. Additionally, Marlene was a consummate problem solver who led with intensity. As a union shop steward, project manager of award-winning floats, and department head in food service at Ford Motor Company, Marlene’s leadership always prevailed.

Caring, sharing and visiting were her most cherished moments. She connected at the heart level and gathering at the kitchen table visiting with neighbors or playing cards with friends and family, filled her cup.

Marlene was famous for having a green thumb. She could resurrect a dead house plant, and keep a poinsettia blooming year-round. Nothing brought Marlene more joy than working in the yard, whether she was cutting grass, planting flowers, painting rocks or pulling weeds, being outside made her smile – always.

Along with her love for the great outdoors, Marlene also loved dogs, especially collies. Whether her own or a neighbor dog on a walk, Marlene was always there with a treat.

In honoring Marlene, at her request, consider donating to Stray Rescue of St. Louis in lieu of flowers. We will be celebrating Marlene‘s life with a casual, come-as-you-are open house on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 5845 Hidden Creek Dr, St. Charles, MO. from 11:00am - 3:00pm followed by an interment at St. Joseph Cottleville Catholic Church columbarium.
