Marlys M. Boyenga of Fort Myers, FL, united with those she loved and her Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the age of 94. Beloved wife of 53 years to the late Raymond D. Boyenga; cherished daughter of the late Ray and Josephine Catlin; devoted mother of twins Kirk (Anita) Boyenga and Kristen Mounts; loving grandmother of four; treasured great-grandmother of five. Marlys is also preceded in death by her seven siblings.
Marlys was born in Alden, Iowa on May 26, 1923 along with her twin brother Marvin. Her family history traced back to Mayflower passengers John Alden and Priscilla Mullens and a rugged Puritan who survived terrorist kidnapping in the French and Indian War. Her most challenging career, of which she took great joy in, was being wife to Raymond and mother of Kirk and Kris. She also dedicated many years as a postal employee and a bank teller.
Marlys was of many talents. She was an award winning French Horn player, a world class apple pie maker, seamstress, basketball player, and shared her voice for more than 50 years with her chosen church homes. She was also a determined fighter and survivor of cancer. While retired in Florida at Six Lakes she gained the moniker “Bicycle Lady” and continued biking until she was 89. Marlys was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made to Salvation Army in Marlys memory.
A graveside memorial service in Iowa is pending.
